It ran for five seasons between 2002 and 2008, and though it was overlooked by many while it was on the air (perhaps a consequence of being on while so many other iconic shows were, what with the 2000s being something of a golden age for TV), its legacy is now hard to deny or ignore. But even with a crowded landscape, it is strange that The Wire got so ignored, even if it didn't have too many big-name actors and was a fairly dense show, with a certain level of commitment being needed to follow it. That all makes it something of a miracle that it was able to last for five seasons and finish on its own terms. Indeed, of the only two Emmy nominations the show ever received — both for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series — one was for the final episode of the show's final season, "-30-."

<![CDATA[After 'Fair Play,' Watch This Cutthroat Workplace Drama Series]]> The thriller Fair Play, now streaming on Netflix, stars Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich as Emily and Luke, a young couple working at a cutthroat New York City hedge fund. They keep their relationship a secret at work, but when Emily gets an unexpected promotion that was rumored to go to Luke, their relationship hits the rocks. Fair Play is a tense relationship drama as well as an indictment of the misogyny that remains pervasive in corporate culture despite recent progress, similar to the premise and social commentary found in HBO's workplace drama Industry. Industry follows four recent college graduates vying for a permanent position at Pierpoint & Co, a London-based investment bank firm with a similarly high-pressure environment as Fair Play's One Crest Capital. While the toxic corporate culture of the financial sector is used as a backdrop and something that drives a wedge between Emily and Luke's relationship, Industry's first two seasons take a broader look at the lives of a group of ambitious twenty-somethings with plenty of sex, drugs, and juicy interpersonal conflict. With a more diverse ensemble cast than the two white protagonists in Fair Play, Industry also highlights the complex relationship dynamics between the four candidates and the larger Pierpoint staff, grappling with misogyny, racism, economic and educational privilege, and the pressures of climbing the ladder in a fiercely competitive industry.

<![CDATA['RHOP' Season 8 Will Be Robyn Dixon's Worst]]> Robyn Dixon managed to outsmart both Andy Cohen and the producers of RHOP last season by keeping her marital woes to herself. It wasn't until the very end of Season 7 that word got out about yet another indiscretion by her then fiancé Juan Dixon. By the time the Karen Huger brought news of Juan having a rumored mistress, Robyn and Juan had already quietly dealt with the infraction and were once again a united, albeit dysfunctional front. Robyn rolled her eyes and acknowledged Juan had inappropriate conversations with a woman but assured the ladies that he was repentant, and the two were back on solid ground headed down the aisle. Andy was visibly irritated by Robyn's disregard for the platform but instead of firing her, she was asked to do a solo interview to accompany the reunion, giving details of the infraction that should've been shared earlier in the season. She was spared ridicule during season 7, but her dishonesty paired with Juan's continued disrespectful behavior and dismissive attitude have worked to make Robyn a target without any allies on the show.

<![CDATA[I Demand Justice for 'The Office's Karen Filipelli]]> One of the biggest TV tropes is the will-they-won't-they between two characters. Every viewer can see it coming, but we don't care. We're suckers for it. The only issue truly is making sure it's done right. Pull the trigger too soon and put these two destined lovers together in Season 2, and all the tension is gone. Wait several seasons to put them together, or worse, have them get together, breakup, and get together again (we're looking at you Ross and Rachel!), and it turns the drama into a slog.

<![CDATA[This 'Office' Storyline Was Doomed From the Start]]> Across nine seasons, NBC's The Office told dozens of hilarious and heartwarming stories. Unlike many sitcoms preceding it, the mockumentary managed to sustain narratives over several episodes, not always tying up conflicts before the credits rolled. For the most part, this was a fruitful approach, as it allowed characters to endure consequences, feel emotions, and grow beyond the constraints of a 30-minute block. However, not all storylines were prolific. Will Ferrell's brief run as Deangelo Vickers, the Schrute Farms spinoff attempt, and Andy Bernard's (Ed Helms) slow fall from grace are just a few arcs that fans look back upon with disapproval. The most ill-fated of them all, though, came in Season 9, with a storyline and character introduction that put much of the series into question.

<![CDATA[ The Most Anticipated TV Shows of 2023 (October 2023)]]> In the realm of small-screen entertainment, it's hard to imagine any TV offerings could top all the amazing TV shows we got in 2022. That said, there are just as many thrilling new series to look forward to in the year ahead as there is the return of shows we've been eagerly waiting for since their last finale dropped. 2023 started off strong with the premiere of HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as the unlikely pair trekking across a post-apocalyptic landscape laden with the infected — and there are new seasons of shows like Loki coming our way — but truth be told, this list only scratches the surface of what's gearing up to air throughout the year. With so many titles yet to be announced, as well as premiere dates that aren't even confirmed, this list could certainly change, but as of now, here are the most anticipated TV shows we're looking forward to tuning in for in 2023.

Executive producers Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman, who were behind the first two World War II-based miniseries, have returned for the third series, virtually guaranteeing the latest will live up to the lofty standards set by its predecessors. Masters of the Air is based on Donald L. Miller's novel Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, the true story of the 100th Bombardment Group of the American Eighth Air Force. <![CDATA[How 'Jujutsu Kaisen' Surpassed the Big Three Anime Shows]]> The central backbone of "Big Three" in anime, especially in the shonen genre, has set the standard for how other series may play out when eventually being adapted from their respected mangas into animated features. Every anime genre has its stereotypes and self-set expectations, but the current standing of the current Big Three — Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach is at risk of being overshadowed by relative newcomers to the shonen genre. MAPPA's Jujutsu Kaisen has rightfully earned its current popularity, has kept in stride with the Big Three when accumulating a mass following, and perhaps even surpasses it when it comes to examining where this individual series succeeds. Jujutsu Kaisen is able to outpace the Big Three due to its ability to eliminate the need for excess filler episodes and tell a streamlined story that cuts out any sluggishness. This anime in particular also has a more mature appeal to it, and its darker tone invites risk-taking when bouncing off of a shonen foundation. The series introduces more complex characters, themes, and takes advantage of the opportunity of being more intense without feeling the need to limit itself. Jujutsu Kaisen has also been praised for its animation quality, which improves watchability improves overall compared to the Big Three.

<![CDATA[Do Yourself a Favor and Watch ‘Moonlighting’]]> The decade of the 1980s threw a little bit of everything at us when it came to television genres. There were police procedurals like Hill Street Blues, mindless action fare like The A-Team and Knight Rider, medical dramas including St. Elsewhere, and of course, the uber-popular wealthy family nighttime soaps Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest. But among all these various styles of hour-long serials, there was one show that stood out from the rest for being the perfect combination of all of them, yet a unicorn unto itself: the Glenn Gordon Caron-created mystery comedy series Moonlighting.

<![CDATA[The Peak TV Model Is Officially Broken — And That’s a Good Thing]]> For the last decade, we’ve been living in the world of peak TV. Streamers and premium networks were throwing endless dollars at major TV shows hoping to make the next Breaking Bad or Stranger Things. The result was an odd paradox for viewers and TV writers alike; lots of opportunities to experience or create new art, but there was little in the way of long-term commitment from these new shows. Companies were now enamored with the limited-run TV program, which allowed outfits to not have to commit to long-term writer’s rooms or offer up the opportunity for writers to score significant raises if a show went into multiple seasons. It was a nightmare scenario that was one of many problems with the peak TV landscape pressing enough to inspire the writers to go on strike.

<![CDATA['House of the Dragon' Season 1 Shouldn't Have Cut a Crucial Relationship]]> House of the Dragon retells one of the many stories in George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, but as with any adaptation, the two versions don't look exactly the same. HBO made several changes to the story adjusting and cutting out parts as they saw fit. The result is a series that skips through the years leading up to the Targaryen civil war and drops many plot points from Martin's original story. While some of the changes benefit the story, others do it a disservice. For one thing, while the show has many different characters, few have the time they deserve. The leads, Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), Alicent (Olivia Cooke), Daemon (Matt Smith), and Viserys (Paddy Considine), are explored in depth, but the secondary characters are often forgotten. For example, Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) often appears but does very little. Many of the skipped plot points involve Laena, from her willful ways as a child to her claiming the dragon Vhagar.

<![CDATA[ 'American Horror Story' Should Have Ended With Season 4]]> American Horror Story spoiled us. In many ways, we weren't able to fully comprehend just how good we had it those first four seasons until it was all yanked out from under us like a massive rug. We literally had Jessica Lange leading a cast-wide sing-a-long and dance to "The Name Game" in the middle of a 1964 asylum... if that's not evidence enough that we had it made in the shade in the early days of American Horror Story, then I don't know what is. Tragically, Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story franchise lost its luster once Season 4 came to a close back in 2015. And while it feels sacrilegious to write out that statement, almost every iteration that came after American Horror Story: Freak Show has been a bit of a mess in its own right. Most of us were pretty crushed after hearing that Jessica Lange wouldn't be returning for Season 5, but news of Lady Gaga's arrival put a temporary bandage on the situation. That is, until Season 5 actually came along. Now with American Horror Story: Delicate, it appears Kim Kardashian's casting might have been a similar situation.

<![CDATA[‘Bones’ Creepiest Serial Killer Remains the Show’s Best]]> Bones was one of the more unique crime procedural shows that FOX ever aired. While there have been quite a few investigative thrillers focused on the cops and secret agents that solve crimes, Bones featured a team of forensic anthropologists and FBI agents who examine deceased individuals in their postmortal state. Since Bones took a more scientific approach to its subject material, the series was able to avoid many of the storytelling cliches that had become common in other criminal investigation shows. However, that didn’t mean that Bones didn’t feature a great rogue’s gallery; the serial killer Chrisopher Pelant (Andrew Leeds) is among the most ruthless screen antagonists to ever haunt broadcast television.

Both are historical romance novels written by literary icons. More specifically, The Buccaneers, just like Sanditon, was not completed at the time of the author's death. But Austen only finished a few chapters of Sanditon – the series departs from her story almost immediately whereas Wharton finished about three fifths of The Buccaneers, which was published in its unfinished state after she died and is often considered one of her best novels. <![CDATA['Bones' Best Squintern Isn’t the One You’re Thinking Of]]> Despite creating a solid framework with its original cast in the first few seasons, Bones made a baffling decision in its third season with the character of Zack Addy (Eric Milligen). Although Zack was originally introduced as both the best friend of Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and an essential bit of comic relief within the series, the character was removed from the core cast after a strange storyline involving a serial killer known as “The Gormogon” (Laurence Todd Rosenthal). While Zack’s departure was deeply unfortunate, Bones attempted to make up for his absence through the introduction of various “squintern” characters that could potentially fill his place. Although there were many “squintern” characters introduced that complimented the main characters, Joel David Moore’s role as the unusually demented forensic intern Colin Fisher was interesting in his own right. Of all the “squinterns,” Fisher felt like he had the potential to be a recurring cast member.

<![CDATA['The Simpsons' Predictions Can Actually Be Explained]]> Whenever something noteworthy or downright idiotic takes social media by storm, a diehard Simpsons fan will appear in the comments with a GIF, video, or screen grab to prove that the brilliant prognosticators on the show's writing staff predicted the event and/or calamity long ago. What became something of a meme on Twitter and other social media platforms resulted in a slew of list-based articles opining the show's divinely accurate soothsaying. But many of these so-called predictions can be boiled down to a philosophy one might refer to as Simpsons' razor. This is a humorous spin on an actual real philosophy, Occam's razor, which suggests that the simplest explanation is often the best one. Simpsons' razor, in contrast, is a philosophy stating that the dumbest possible result is often the most likely. The comedy writers on The Simpsons may appear to be predicting future events, but in reality, they are constructing satiric barbs that mock society's stupidity by exaggerating it. The Simpson family isn't predicting the future; our modern society is simply racing The Simpsons to see who can present the dumbest possible outcome for humanity.

<![CDATA[This Is What Sets ‘The Chosen’ Apart From Other Faith-Based Projects]]> There's no denying that The Chosen, a small, independent television series about the life of Jesus Christ and His followers, has become a global phenomenon. Since filmmaking began over 100 years ago, biblical epics have been re-told time and again, with new takes on the familiar stories. (The Prince of Egypt, anyone?) Be it the tales of Moses, Samson, or King David, the Bible has remained consistent source material for Hollywood for decades, even if most adaptations are a poor reflection of the scriptures (looking at you, Noah...). So what makes The Chosen any different? Is this, too, another Hollywood take on the greatest story ever told? It's actually anything but Hollywood.

<![CDATA[Steven Spielberg's '80s Anthology Series Brought in Big-Names ]]> Steven Spielberg is one of the most iconic filmmakers of all time, but he also tried his hand at the small screen with the anthology series Amazing Stories. This show ran from 1985 to 1987, and unlike most other classic anthology shows that you think of, this one doesn't fall into the trappings of TV horror. Instead, Amazing Stories tells new stories every week that feel like mini-movies from the master himself, with touches of fantasy, sci-fi, drama, and comedy here and there. Not only that, it was also a hot commodity for actors to drop in and guest star on. Many of the '80s biggest names have appeared on this show, to varying degrees. It might not be the most well-known series from the 1980s, but it is a fascinating one to look back on and has a lot of gems waiting for new audiences to uncover.

<![CDATA[‘Loki’ Introduced Kang Better Than ‘Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania’]]> Editor's Note: The following article contains spoilers for Loki Season 2.Jonathan Majors' Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as He Who Remains in Loki Season 1 is so good, that it actually works to the detriment of his second and more essential character, Kang the Conqueror. Frankly, Phase 5 of the MCU has frankly gotten off to a bit of a weird start with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). While not the worst superhero film ever made, the third film in the Ant-Man series feels like it's trying to do way too much while accomplishing very little. All at once, it's trying to be a straightforward movie about Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and his family, trying to introduce a new facet of the MCU with the Quantum Realm, and introduce the franchise's next big bad. That last goal is undoubtedly the most important to achieve, and thankfully the film gets close to accomplishing it thanks to another fantastic performance from Jonathan Majors as Kang.

<![CDATA[The Best Way To Watch ‘Blue Exorcist’ Isn’t the Order You’d Think]]> If you were watching anime in 2011, you most likely remember Blue Exorcist. It was a popular shōnen at the time, though maybe not at the level of Hunter x Hunter or Gintama, which both came out the same year. The series has two seasons, a film, and an OVA. There is also a new season on the horizon for January 2024, though no concrete premiere date has been announced. Even so, there’s no time like the present to try and get involved with the series. Blue Exorcist is adapted from a manga of the same name that is penned by Kazue Kato. It is a dark fantasy series that follows teenager Rin Okumura, a boy who often finds himself in trouble despite his good heart. When his and his brother Yukio’s surrogate father is killed by Satan, they find out that Satan is their true father, and Rin’s demonic powers are awakened. <![CDATA[Give John Wick's Sofia a Spinoff, You Cowards!]]> Although John Wick: Chapter 4 offered a fairly definitive conclusion to the story of Keanu Reeves’ titular hitman, the world of John Wick is being rapidly expanded. It was clear from the first film that Wick himself is part of a larger network of spies, assassins, and killers that work under the High Table, and we’re now just getting to see some of those other stories told. The Peacock original series The Continental: From The World of John Wick explores the early exploits of Wick’s mentor Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), and Len Wiseman’s upcoming spinoff film Ballerina will explore the adventures of the new heroine Rooney (Ana de Armas). It’s exciting to see that the John Wick universe will go on, even if the character himself has departed, as many of the films have hinted at some of the other players in this world whose stories have yet to be completed. Now that Wick has joined his wife in death, it’s about time that the films check in on Halle Berry’s Sofia Al-Azwar.

<![CDATA[‘The Wheel of Time’ Season 2 Finale Surprisingly Resurrects a Fan-Favorite]]> To say Uno Nomesta's (Guy Roberts) death in Episode 3 was a shock to many book fans of The Wheel of Time is an understatement. Uno, in the books, is a foul-mouthed Shienaran warrior who would only attempt to hold his tongue in front of women. This is pretty much exactly who we are presented with within the show, right down to his topknot, missing an eye, and sporting that very stylish eye patch. But there is one important detail that was changed: He survived the Seanchan in the books. This is new territory for the character of Uno as a Hero of the Horn, what does that mean for the future? Uno has always been a fan-favorite character in The Wheel of Time. Not only is his constant cursing hilarious in many different situations, but he is an awesome warrior and carried himself through the entire book series. Guy Roberts captured the essence of Uno fantastically, even in the short screen time he had in the first and second seasons. So his death in Episode 3 of Season 2 was a very shocking event for book fans, but his brutal execution was not for nothing, it provides a lot of depth for the show to explore, even at the expense of him.

<![CDATA[‘How I Met Your Mother’ Gave Us the Worst Love Triangle in History]]> Out of the many tropes used within the romance genre, the most disliked is probably the love triangle. It’s generally considered a tired trope that’s mostly associated with stories directed at young adults. In reality, though, love triangles date back to Shakespearean times, and over the years there have been many exceptional shows and movies that make use of the trope to tell us something insightful about people and romance. But it's perilously easy for the love triangle trope to fall into clichés and mediocrity. It’s worsened by the fact that most TV shows with romantic prospects seem to feel obligated to introduce an unwarranted love triangle arc just for the sake of forwarding the plot. And this is what happened with How I Met Your Mother season 3 onwards when the show started hinting at a triangle shaping up around Ted (Josh Radnor), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), and Robin (Cobie Smulders). Though the show tried really hard to sell it, spanning the arc across multiple season, it never felt quite right.

The series even closed out with essentially a trailer for the upcoming series that will follow Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, the show's first and primary protagonist, and Michonne, played by Danai Gurira, who left the series in Season 10, Episode 13, "What We Become," to search for Rick and bring him home to their children and their found family. This spin-off is hotly anticipated as it can finally shed light on where Rick has been in the years that have passed since Season 9, Episode 5 when he was taken away in a mysterious helicopter. Another series also sees Daryl Dixon, played by fan favorite Norman Reedus, set off on an international adventure in Europe. <![CDATA[The True Story Behind ‘Dragon Ball Z’s Most Evil Villain]]> Art imitates life in the funniest ways and anime is no exception in spite of the ridiculous over-the-top energy pulsing through the genre at all times, which is why it should only come as a slight surprise that one of anime’s most iconic villains, Frieza (Ryūsei Nakao) from Dragon Ball Z fame, is actually based off of real estate speculators during the Japanese asset price bubble between 1986 and 1991. If Godzilla is after all based on the fear of radiation poisoning as a result of atomic bomb testing, it makes sense that Dragon Ball series creator Akira Toriyama would base his own big bad off of a very real crisis that led to what was known in Japan as ‘the Lost Decades.’ It’s the equivalent of basing Thanos off of the 2008 financial crisis; hardly a bad idea, as there’s hardly a better target to funnel an audience’s rage towards than those whose malpractice ushered millions of livelihoods into extreme debt and disarray.

<![CDATA['RHOSLC's' Mary Cosby Is On Fire]]> The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City was front and center, with reality TV star Mary Cosby leading the pack in a night of sarcasm and laughs. Mary joined guest author, Ziwe, as they appeared on Andy Cohen's late-night talk show Watch What Happens Live on October 10. Fans adore Mary for her blunt opinions and audacious personality, which was on display as the guests dished on everything housewives-related. Andy mentioned that the duo (Mary and Ziwe) were highly requested, and it's no surprise to see why, with their impromptu personalities. Housewives are known for appearing on WWHL and shaking up the Housewife universe, but Andy was surprised to find out what the RHOSLC star would deliver. Although Mary is a fan-favorite of RHOSLC, how far is too far when having an opinion on display?

<![CDATA[The Best 'Chainsaw Man' Character Isn't Denji]]> Chainsaw Man was one of 2022's most anticipated arrivals onto the shōnen anime scene, and newer fans of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s masterpiece have been eager to learn what the gore-infested, devil craze is all about! The original story follows the Public Safety Devil Hunters, a government agency devoted to protecting citizens from death-threatening devils across Japan. After Denji (Toya Kikunosuke), a young man without a home or family, is suddenly murdered by the Yakuza, his pet, dog-like devil, Pochita, offers him a deal to merge their bodies together. Miraculously, the teenager is revived and granted the power to transform his body parts into chainsaws, and Denji joins the Tokyo Special Division 4, where he meets extraordinary devil hunters, including Makima (Kusunoki Tomori), Power (Fairouz Ai), Himeno (Ise Mariya), and — of course — his badass mentor Aki Hayakawa (Sakata Shougo). Without the guidance of his compelling best pal, Denji would have easily lost himself in the chaotic purge of devil slaying. The deuteragonist may seem coldhearted on the outside, but Aki proves himself to be the most prominent figure in the show from his determined motivation, silent, caring demeanor, and bittersweet backstory that make him irresistible for new and loyal fans of the sensational animated series.

<![CDATA[The Forgotten Faux Reality Show That Turned 'Survivor' Into a Horror Story]]> In 2013, the popularity of the reality competition series Survivor was at an all-time high. Even today the CBS series is still pulling in regularly impressive numbers, with it about to embark on its 45th season with an all-new cast. 2013 was also a time when fans of Lost were on the hunt for their next new obsession, as the surreal disaster series concluded in 2010. A show that throws a group of strangers into a deadly survival environment packed to the brim with mystery, action, and suspense. What happens when you combine the nonscripted drama of Survivor and the fictionalized mystery of Lost? You get an overlooked and forgotten NBC series called Siberia (not to be confused with the Keanu Reeves film from 2018 and the Willem Dafoe film from 2019 of the same name).

<![CDATA[How Accurate Is 'NCIS'?]]> CBS has turned its status as America’s “most watched network” into a slogan thanks in large part to the NCIS franchise. Charting strong after almost 20 years, the original NCIS was the most-watched primetime scripted series of the 2021-2022 season. Itself a spin-off of JAG, it spun off into NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i, and the upcoming NCIS: Sydney. While most viewers probably don’t watch NCIS for realism, speculating about audience motivation is a futile exercise that may not even reflect on the potential irresponsibility of the work in question. NCIS is wildly inaccurate, and in an age of increased sensitivity toward depictions of law enforcement in popular entertainment, accuracy matters when that entertainment is, in fact, the most popular.

<![CDATA[Shannon Beador's Drinking History on 'The Real Housewives of Orange County' Is Nothing New]]> The Real Housewives of Orange County has always promoted as being a franchise seeped in a "fun time." Lots of partying, day drinking, and wine consumption is displayed. Some of its stars, like Gina Kirschenheiter, have turned to a life of sober living. But despite such, it can feel like the show itself and the housewives on it are designed to fall into this pattern of substance abuse. The most recent to be in the news for her use of alcohol is Shannon Beador. After a DUI and hit-and-run charge in September, Beador has enrolled herself in an outpatient behavioral wellness program that includes an alcohol component treatment option.

<![CDATA[Marvel Is Long Overdue for an Overhaul of Its Disney+ Shows]]> Earlier this week, accompanying news that Daredevil: Born Again was going to be getting an overhaul, a piece in The Hollywood Reporter revealed the bigger picture: Marvel Studios is starting over in its approach to its television shows. The original concept of making small-screen Marvel Studios productions that were all limited-run projects, as well as how those shows were produced, was going out the window. Additionally, it was confirmed that the studio would be implementing two significant changes: shooting pilots for its TV shows and hiring showrunners, initiatives that have been in place in the realm of television since the very beginning of the medium. Leave it to one of the biggest companies on the planet to discover such a well-worn method for producing television like it’s the long-buried Ark of the Covenant.

<![CDATA[Daredevil: Born Again Was Never Going to Be Dark and Gritty]]> Netflix did the unthinkable with their corner of the Marvel universe by building mature superhero stories that seemed to happen in the real world. So, when Marvel Studios brought Charlie Cox back as Matt Murdock for Spider-Man: No Way Home, some fans hoped to see the Devil of Hell's Kitchen return to his gritty ways, just like in Netflix's Daredevil show. As a result, people were disappointed when Cox showed up as a quipping, happy vigilante in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

<![CDATA['Yellowjackets' Lauren Ambrose Gave Us the Most Moving Goodbye in This Show]]> When the Showtime series Yellowjackets debuted, the character of Van wasn't supposed to make it through the first season. Actor Liv Hewson was so great though that producers changed their mind. In the recent second season, Lauren Ambrose plays the adult Van, and while she's great in the role, no matter what heights Ambrose or the show soars to, nothing can match what she already did on Six Feet Under. That's not a criticism, as if Ambrose isn't capable of matching that success, rather, it's a compliment of her work. Six Feet Under wasn't just any show. It was widely celebrated in its time and the years since, and its final scene, with Ambrose front and center, was the most perfect series finale goodbye imaginable.

<![CDATA[The ‘Supernatural’ Episode That Gave Us the Series’ Most Iconic Character]]> Of all the iconic objects in Supernatural ranging from firearms and symbols to locations and costumes, none is more recognizable than the Impala itself. As much as the Winchesters are known for their taste in classic rock and their penchant for beheading monsters, their wheels are easily the most important thing to the demon-slaying brothers. In many ways, the "Metallicar" as it was sometimes called off-screen, was a true "third Winchester," and though other characters have fit that bill, none have quite the same style as this 1967 Chevy Impala.

<![CDATA[The Scariest Part of ‘American Horror Story’ Isn't What You Think]]> The horror anthology can be a hit or miss when it comes to characters or plotting. Killing off Twisty (John Carroll Lynch) so early in Freakshow to replace him with Dandy (Finn Wittrock) lost scare power. The nearly season-long flashback for Apocalypse might be forgiven if it delivered on the promised crossover between Coven and Murder House. The longer American Horror Story goes on, flaws are obvious to spot, whereas in previous seasons they might be easily overlooked. However, a part of the show that never fails to creep us out is the opening title sequence, and it can be fun to spot the variations to the revamped audio and visuals when each season arrives. The spinoff, American Horror Stories, has its variants, but the main series is special for where it all began, hiding in hints and clues to key moments in later episodes that the spinoff’s standalone format can’t do. And it wouldn’t be possible if it were not for two Latino creatives who had a major hand in creating the show’s iconic title sequence you know and fear.

<![CDATA[Lord of the Rings Used Orcs To Take a Shot at Harvey Weinstein]]> The entirety of the Lord of the Rings franchise is recognized for its spectacular costume design and characterful make-up that helped to bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s intricate fantasy world to the big screen. But it seems that one aspect of costuming in particular made a subtle dig at a now criminally convicted Hollywood producer. According to an anecdote relayed by Elijah Wood, the design of selected orc masks were modeled on the face of none other than Harvey Weinstein, as a deliberate dig against the Miramax co-founder.

<![CDATA[We’re Still Pissed About That Recast on ‘The Fosters’]]> Sometimes, late in a show’s run, an actor will decide it's time for them to depart the series. Whatever the reason may be, it’s often disappointing for the fans, and leaves the showrunners with two options: One, write the character off entirely. Or two, recast the character with someone new. While the most obvious and simple choice would seem to be just writing the character off, some shows do go with the second option and recast a character with someone new. Such was the case with The Fosters, when Jake T. Austin decided he was going to be departing the show. Rather than writing his character off, he was replaced by a new actor, and to put it gently, fans were not happy. From the very first episode of The Fosters Jake T. Austin portrayed Jesus Foster, one half of a set of twins adopted by Lena (Sherri Saum) and Stef Foster (Teri Polo). He and his twin sister Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) had a rough childhood in the foster care system before eventually being adopted by Lena and Stef, and thus becoming a part of a happy family.
